“I Saw Him Standing There” by Tiffany was a cover version of The Beatles‘ song “I Saw Her Standing There“. It was released on her debut self-titled album, changing the lyrics to “him” instead of “her”. It was produced by George Tobin.
The song was the third single from the album and another hit for Tiffany. It reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week of April 23, 1988.
“Can’t Stop A Heartbeat”, a fan favorite there, was released in Japan before the rest of the world on the b-side on the Japanese release of “I Saw Him Standing There” because it was made for a chocolate TV commercial.
The b-side in the US was “Mr. Mambo”. This one is hardly worthy, even for a b-side.
I like “Can’t Stop A Heartbeat”, probably because it sounds almost exactly like another track I love: Don Henley’s 1984 “Boys of Summer”. Click here to hear for an excerpt of both songs. There’s another track on the “Tiffany” album that sounds like a rip-off: “Feelings of Forever” is very similar to Bryan Adam’s 1984 hit “Heaven”.
This Japan only remix EP CD was released in 1988.
