SPIDER

One friend commented, ‘hm, no spider pictures?’ about the blog posts.  I responded, “No.  For all I know the spiders jump or spit.  I’m not getting close enough to snap a photo.  If you visit, you can get close enough to get one.”

I’m freaking terrified of spiders.  But, I have wanted to find out what these monstrosities are and if they are capable of eating me.  Turns out, they are a type of golden silk orb weaver, more commonly known as Giant Wood Spiders.  Below is a picture for you.

Apparently their bite isn’t deadly, but can leave a scar due to the size of it’s fangs.  Thankfully, they can’t spit and are fairly docile.  But, they occasionally catch birds and bats with their webs, which can span a meter.  Fishermen would sometimes use their webs to catch bait fish, since the webs are so strong.

You know I didn’t get close enough for this.  The pic is from here.
